This is the first book I've read in a single day in a long, long, time. I really could not wait to see what each chapter would bring! I'm a life-long fan of sci-fi and fantasy, and I love a writer who can not only weave a good yarn, but has also done their research and knows the facts as well. There is a wealth of knowledge of many cultures, especially of the British and the First Peoples of America. I found Wihni's tribe to be much like the matrtiarchal societies of the First Peoples before the European influences.I also love it when a writer makes me laugh, and I laughed often at how Sionn and Wihni interacted. She is the natural born leader, but she needs him to help her get around in a world that is very different from the one in which she lives. She doesn't understand money, and she doesn't understand that you just CAN'T run around smiling and talking with everyone. You'll either get in a lot of trouble (which she nearly does several times,) or people will just think you're a bit daft.
A great read for both teens and adults. My only disappointment is the wait to see how the story continues.

This book is jam-packed with all the things I look for in a good curl-up a layered story that grabs, images that put me right there, dynamic characters, a build-up of anticipation, and a sense that the writer isn't taking this too seriously. Serpent does an amazing job of that and more.
There really is something for everyone here. The personalities of the characters are well-flushed, and I enjoyed learning their quirks. It was refreshing to see such dynamic people and backgrounds. The locations in the novel are described in such detail that it was easy to visualize the characters' surroundings as they moved through lands and cities and dimensions. As another reviewer said, the writer obviously did research.
Serpent flows from uncertainty to elation to devastation with a humor and pacing I've rarely seen in first novels. I actually found myself laughing out loud at parts (the first night Sionn and Whini spend in Iilediaweh and the salon scene come to mind), and many other scenes or lines stuck with me. And I loved the undertones of social and personal responsibility the author infused into the story, as Whini and Sionn face (on a waaaay bigger scale!) decisions all of us are confronted with.
A captivating adventure, this book is a must-read for, well, everyone!
While reading Unwritten Serpent of Time, I kept wondering how the story continued with amazing adventures on every page. Wihni is so much a girl, young lady and wife yet she is strong and courageous. Her training is hilarious to watch as each 'chosen one' bucks and kicks at every opportunity. However, she keeps her purpose and continues forward despite the obstacles'.
Putting the book down was a challenge because I kept wanting to fly from one unbelievable adventurous situation to the next.
Loved it when Wihni is training Sioann off the cliffs into the valley where the opalized skull is being guarded by the fierce P8hweh (tiny flying like fairies.) Being the gentlemen he is....Sioann takes it upon himself to help them according to his idea of proper attire. It is so humorous and fun.
The adventures are enormously challenging, terrifyingly difficult with lighthearted entertainment throughout. Cannot wait for the next book of the series. My hat goes off to Shelton Fox. The author has captured it all!
